Doris Yates Staples, 79, of Rockingham, NC passed to her rest April 7, 2013 in Pinehurst, NC. She entered this world October 31, 1933, the youngest of nine children born to John and Katie Yates of Rockingham. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, John Yates, Eldridge Yates, and Tom Yates and her sisters, Norma McGuire, and Betty Holland. Survivors include her children, George Love III and wife Paulette, Susan and Mel Davis, Bobby and Johnny Love a special son, granddaughters; Kipton, Jennifer, Austin, Maggie, and Jenny a special grand-daughter. She is also survived by her sister, Margaret Maples of Charlotte, NC; and brothers, Bob Yates and wife Anne of Marshville, NC and Leroy Yates and Mae of Rockingham, and Darrell Holland of Charlotte, NC. Doris was a 1950 graduate of Rockingham city schools and was an active member of the Roberdel Baptist Church where she was president of the Tried and True Sunday School Class. She was a past member of the Richmond County Board of Realtors and in the 1980s she was designated Realtor of the Year as well as Businesswoman of the Year for the Richmond County Chamber of Commerce. Doris never met a stranger and was loved by a host of friends and family who will always remember her kindly spirit and love for others. A funeral service is planned for Saturday, April 13 at 2:00 p.m. at the Roberdel Baptist Church, 1118 Richmond Road, Rockingham, NC 28379. Pastor Ernie Walters of Roberdel Baptist Church, and Pastor Jim Nelson of First Baptist Church of Rockingham, will officiate. Carter Funeral Home, 705 South Caroline St., Rockingham, NC 28379, is in charge. The family will receive visitors at Carter Funeral Home on Friday, April 12, from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. She was a loving Christian, beloved mother, adoring Grandmother and friend to all. In her almost 80 years she touched many lives with a beautiful smile and kind words to all she came in contact with. Memorials may be made to the Katie Yates Living Legacy Fund at the First Baptist Church, 201 N. Randolph St, Rockingham, North Carolina 28379.
