Sara McRae Reynolds, 106 years old, of Charlotte – formerly of Rockingham – passed away Friday, May 31, 2013 in Charlotte. Mrs. Reynolds was born on December 10, 1906 in Richmond County and was the daughter of the late William Henry and Sara Jane Dawkins McRae. She was a graduate of Rockingham High School and attended Greensboro College for Women. Following college, she taught school for a short time and later was a sales clerk with Woods Department Store and Rose’s 5 & 10. She was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church of Rockingham and also attended East Baptist Church in Charlotte. Her beloved husband, Tracy O’Dell Reynolds and her daughter, Elizabeth Reynolds Layton, preceded her in death. Surviving are her grandchildren, Molly McRae Layton of Chicago, IL, Patrick Hunter Layton of Myrtle Beach, SC and her son-in-law, John Louis (Lou) Layton of Myrtle Beach, SC. A service to celebrate Mrs. Reynold’s long and amazing life will be held at 11 am Wednesday, June 5th, at First Methodist Church of Rockingham with Rev. Mike Sykes and Rev. Allison Farrah officiating. Inurnment will be held privately at Eastside Cemetery. There will be a viewing and the family will be receiving friends and visitors one hour prior to the service at the church.
