Sam Brown Smith

Sam Brown Smith, 86, of Rockingham, passed away Friday, June 14, 2013 at his home. Sam was born April 15, 1927 in Richmond County, a son of the late Emmett Wesley and Lucy Nichols Smith. He had served his country in the United States Navy during World War II and was a member of Ellerbe First Presbyterian Church, PCA. He had retired from Clark Equipment Company and was an avid Quail hunter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Wesley Smith. Surviving are his daughter, Emilie Kirchhoffer of Staten Island, NY; granddaughter, Caroline Magyarits of Staten Island, NY; nephews, Richard and Buck Smith of Ellerbe; sister-in-law, Marion Smith Covington of Ellerbe; and special friend, Jean Crouch of Lumberton. Funeral services will be held at 3 pm Tuesday at Ellerbe First Presbyterian Church, PCA, with Rev. James Watson and Rev. Stan Layton officiating. Interment in Old Northam Cemetery will follow with Military Honors. The family will see friends from 1:30 – 2:45 pm Tuesday in the Fellowship Hall of Ellerbe First Presbyterian Church, PCA.
