Chief Petty Officer (Ret.) William ‘Bill’ Curtis, 70, of Hwy 220 North, Ellerbe died Sunday, April 27, 2008 at Hospice Haven in Rockingham. He was born March 22, 1938 in Person County, a son of the late Payton Travis Curtis and Ethel Bowen Curtis. Chief Petty Officer Curtis was retired from the United States Navy. He had a twenty-two year distinguished career in Aviation Administration and Naval Recruiting. Mr. Curtis was of the Baptist faith. Memorial services will be conducted 11:00 am Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe with Rev. Joey Byrd officiating. Surviving is a daughter, Jennifer Bailey of Ellerbe; a son, William Curtis III of Ellerbe; and six grandchildren. Two sisters, Frances Boyd of Lumberton and Joyce Scholl of Atlanta, also survive him. Two daughters, Anita Curtis and Pam Curtis Butler, preceded him in death. The family will receive friends following the service.
