Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Wright Davis, 97, of 405 N. Randolph Street, Rockingham died Saturday, May 3, 2008 at First Health Richmond Memorial Hospital. She was born October 24, 1910 in Stanley County, a daughter of the late Montgomery Bostick Wright and Lottie Lowder Wright. Mrs. Davis was a member of First Baptist Church in Rockingham. For many years, she was an active volunteer with the Cameron Morrison Bible Ministry. Mrs. Davis was a homemaker. She, also, helped her husband in his accounting practice with tax preparation. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am Wednesday, May 7th at First Baptist Church in Rockingham with Dr. Lamar King officiating. Interment will follow in Richmond Memorial Park. Surviving are her son, Hoyle Eugene Davis and wife Fumiko of Rockingham; five grandchildren, Vivian Hilton and husband Lex, Eugene Davis, Jr. and wife Corey, Elisa Diaz, Steve Owen and wife Laura, and Kimberly Fisher; seventeen great grandchildren; a brother, Robert P. Wright of Hamlet; and a sister, Lillian W. Samuels of Jacksonville, FL. Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her husband, Hoyle W. Davis: a daughter, Vivian D. White: a grandson, Earl Owen: and siblings, Burnett Wright, Carlton Wright, Ruby Sullivan, and Nell Yarbrough. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 pm at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham and other times at the home of Mrs. Davis’ son, 120 Fairway Drive, Rockingham.
