Richard Hill Carter, 70, of 116 Sixth St. Ellerbe, died Sunday, May 4, 2008 at his home. Mr. Carter was born July 21, 1937 in Richmond County, a son of the late Eldridge Martin and Mary Ann Meacham Carter. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Ellerbe and was a Kentucky Colonel. He was the Owner/Operator R.H.Carter Farms, Hill’s Horn of Plenty, and for over 40 years was a tobacco buyer for American Tobacco Company and Universal Leaf Tobacco Company. Surviving are his wife Mary Ellen Faulconer Carter of the home, sons Ricky Carter of Ellerbe, Julian Carter of Rockingham, Daughters, Lisa Sharpe of Burlington, Ann Beth Simmons of Foxfire Village, Jennifer Brach of Ellerbe, 8 grandchildren, brothers, Larry Carter of Garner, Morris Carter of Rockingham, Dwight Carter of Cary, Travis Carter of Denver and sisters, Rebecca Frazier of Cary, Diane Kennedy of Rockingham, Willa Spivey of Ellerbe. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday at First Presbyterian Church of Ellerbe with Rev. James Watson officiating.
