Pauline Marie Lewis Carnes, 98, of Laurinburg, formerly of Rockingham, passed away Sunday, September 8, 2013 at Scotia Village in Laurinburg. Mrs. Carnes was born November 2, 1914 in Walkerton, Indiana, a daughter of the late Frank and Carrie Lewis. She was valedictorian of her high school class and had served her country as a WAVE in the United States Navy during World War II. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Rockingham and had retired from FCX in Raleigh, NC. Mrs. Carnes was an avid bridge player, continuing to play until her death and a follower of Atlanta Braves baseball. Surviving are her husband of 65 years, Burgoone Carnes of Laurinburg; step-daughter, Kay Cauthen of Lancaster, SC and a favorite grand niece, Jennipher Nagy of Villa Hills, KY. Funeral services will be held at 11 am Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Rockingham with Rev. Mike Sykes and Rev. Allison Farrah officiating. Entombment will follow at 3 pm at Lakeland Memorial Park in Monroe. The family will greet friends from 6 to 7:30 pm Tuesday at First United Methodist Church.
