Jayne Helms Bennett

Jayne Myers Helms Bennett, 64, a resident of Britthaven of Hamlet, died Thursday, May 29, 2008 at Britthaven. Mrs. Bennett was born May 16, 1944 in Champaign, IL, a daughter of the late Isaac Jay and Mary White Helms. She was a graduate of Rockingham High School, Class of 1962, a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with a degree in respiratory therapy and a member of First United Methodist Church. A former model and actor in New York, she returned to Rockingham and was associated with Helms Jewelers and Helms Gift Shop for several years. Surviving are her husband, Stephen Bennett of Rockingham, daughters, Mari Bennett of Rockingham, Melanie Dewitt and husband Dale of Ellerbe, grandchildren, Savannah Dewitt, Johnathan Dewitt, Bennett Street and Poly O’cean Bennett. A service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday in Richmond County Memorial Park. The family will greet friends Saturday from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at the Dewitt home, 3479 N US 220 Hwy, Ellerbe.
