Sara LeGrand Sanford Tanner, 80, of Rockingham, passed away Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at her home. Mrs. Tanner was born April 1, 1933 in Richmond County, a daughter of the late Paul and Annie Ruth Ormsby Sanford. She was a member of First Assembly of God and was bookkeeper and co-owner of Glass Expressions and Tanner Food Center in Rockingham. Surviving are her husband of 63 years, Samuel Durant Tanner, Jr. of the home; children, Christine Huguelet of Hamlet, Sammy Tanner, III (Elizabeth) of Maxton, Jackie Tanner of Rockingham, Bobby Tanner (Kathy) of Jacksonville, FL and Nan Freeman (Creed) of Rockingham; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A service to celebrate Mrs. Tanner’s life will be held at 3pm Thursday at First Assembly of God with Rev. Gene Alexander and Rev. Mitchell Roller officiating. Interment will be held privately in Eastside Cemetery. The family will see friends following the service in the church fellowship hall and at other times at the home.
