Evelyn L. (Nannie) Free, moved into her heavenly home on Friday November 22, 2013 from 246 Airport Rd. Rockingham, after a brief battle with cancer. She was born to Frankie and Rosa M. Goodwin on March 12, 1920 in Richmond County. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Howard D. Free, siblings; Janie McPherson, Lillie Todd, Lola Goodwin, Diara Terry, Virginia Callahan, Bruce Goodwin, Leon Goodwin and James Goodwin, a grandson Robin Dawkins and son in law, Lewis Dawkins. She is survived by her daughters, Bobbie Dawkins of Rockingham and Mary Kirk, (Eddie) of Statesville NC. There are four grandchildren, Cathy D. Henderson, Kevin Kirk, Beth K. Rhyne, and Corey Dawkins. Great Grand Children are; Emily D. Sellers, Zachary Henderson; Jenna Henderson, and Lucas Henderson, Paul Rhyne, Will Rhyne, Tanner Rhyne, Kristin Kirk and Kari Kirk, Blaire Dawkins, Brad Dawkins, and Blake Dawkins. Great great grandchildren Karleigh Sellers and Brailynne Henderson. She was a dedicated charter member of Pine Grove Baptist Church. She sang in the choir, a trio, duet, along with being a teacher and member of the W.O.M. She had a beautiful alto voice and sang with the Kings Quartet on WAYN in the late 1940’s. She worked at, Aleo Manufacturing, JP Stevens, and retired from Clark Equipment Company. The service to celebrate her home going will be, 3:00pm Sunday, November 24th Pine Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne Tuttle and Daryl Wrape officiating. Interment will follow at Eastside Cemetery. Family will meet and greet friends one hour prior to the service at Pine Grove Baptist Church. Memorial may be made in Mrs. Free’s Honor to Pine Grove Baptist Church, 275 Airport Road, Rockingham, NC, as well as Richmond County Hospice 1119 N. US-1, Rockingham, NC.
