Etta Jean Garris Griggs

Mrs. Etta Jean Garris Griggs , 80 of 120 Starlight Dr. Rockingham died Saturday November 23, 2013 at her home with her family by her side. She was born February 7, 1933 in Richmond Co., NC a daughter of the late Milton and Ruth Crouch Garris. She was a member of Roberdel United Methodist Church and Rockingham Women’s Club. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Obira Griggs, Jr. and her sister Hellon Ruth Garris Mudd. She is survived by her husband Obira Ravernail Griggs, Sr. of the home, sons; David Milton Griggs (Therese) of Clemmons, NC, Daniel Beeler Griggs, Sr. of Rockingham, Richard Garris Griggs (Sylvia) of Leesville, SC, Robert Stanley Griggs, Sr. (Laura) of Garner, NC, Michael Stephen Griggs (Angela) of Holden Beach, NC and a daughter Virginia Gay Butcher (Carey) of Rockingham, her brothers; Milton R. Garris III (Gloria) of Texas, Jerry R. Garris of Rockingham, William Abner Garris (Wanda) of Ellerbe, her sisters; Alice R. Garris Morgan of Hamlet, Sarah E. Garris Taylor of Cordova and Nancy C. Garris White (Austin) of Rockingham. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. A service to celebrate the life of Etta Jean Garris Griggs will be conducted 2:00pm Tuesday at Roberdel United Methodist Church officiated by the Rev. Bob Carpenter. Burial will follow in Eastside Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church and other times at the home on Starlight Drive.
