Paul Haynes Many, 95, of Rockingham died Saturday, December 21, 2013 at Sandy Ridge Assisted Living in Candor, N.C. Mr. Many was born March 18, 1918 in Hobart, N.Y., a son of the late George B. and Ethel Haynes Many. He enlisted in the United States Army in April 1941 and served as a 1st Lieutenant in the Field Artillery (Philippines) at the time of his discharge in February 1946. He owned and operated Paul H. Many Construction Company until 1964, when he joined Associated Builders, which later became Southern Builders, Inc. He retired in 1998. He was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Ollie Mae Terry Many and by his second wife Virginia Upton Many to whom he was married for 27 years. He was also preceded in death by one sister and four brothers. He is survived by one son, William R. Many and wife Nancy of Rockingham, a daughter Paula Many Weigman, and husband Vic of Rockingham, a stepson, Bill Upton and wife Treva of Canton, N.C., a stepdaughter Betty Upton Kwasnick of Newbern, N.C., five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his brothers Kent Many of Chapel Hill, N.C. and Wallace Many of Hartford, C.T., a sister-in-law, Lillian Terry of Rockingham, NC. A service to celebrate the life of Paul H. Many will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 23 at Carter Colonial Chapel in Rockingham. Gene Alexander and Rev. Quinton Covington will officiate, Burial with military honors will follow in Richmond County Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Monday at Carter Funeral Home and other times at the home of Bill and Nancy Many at 501 Roberdel Road, Rockingham.
