William Holmes

Mr. William Cash Holmes, 80, of 110 Greenlawn Drive, Rockingham died Thursday, June 26th at First Health Richmond Memorial Hospital. He was born September 7, 1927 in Richmond County, a son of the late Cash Daniel and Effie Fairfax Holmes. Mr. Holmes was retired from Richmond Yarns, where he was a supervisor. He had previous experience at Aleo and Beaunit Mills. Mr. Holmes was a veteran, serving in the U. S. Army. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 pm Sunday, June 29th at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham with Rev. Jerry Hatcher officiating. Burial will follow in Richmond Memorial Park with military honors. Surviving are sons, William Holmes and wife Barbara and Calvin Williams, all of Rockingham; five stepsons and three stepdaughters; seven grandchildren including William Christopher Holmes of Rockingham, Holly Beatrice Holmes of Miami, FL, and Jessica Miller of Laurel Hill; seventeen great grandchildren; three nieces and one nephew. Two brothers, Jerry Holmes and Sherrill ‘Funny’ Holmes, preceded Mr. Holmes in death. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6 to 8 pm at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham.
