Charles Dean Stewart, Jr.

Charles Dean Stewart, Jr., 83, of Ellerbe, passed away Friday, February 07, 2014 at Hospice Haven in Rockingham. Charlie was born August 14, 1930 in Atlantic City, NJ, a son of the late Charles Dean and Ann Hearn Stewart. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church and had served his country in the US Navy during the Korean War. For over 25 years he trained race horses and had retired from Richmond County Memorial Park as Sales Manager. Pam Unger’s book, Boogaloo Dancer: The Story of a Racehorse, was written about Charlie’s work with Boogaloo Dancer. Surviving are his longtime companion, Mary Helen Spivey Capps of Ellerbe; sons, Charles Dean Stewart, III of Downington, PA and David Gregory Stewart of Woodbine, NJ; two granddaughters; and brother, Richard L. Stewart of Harpers Ferry, W. VA . Funeral services will be held at 2pm Tuesday at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church with Rev. Elizabeth Polk officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friend following the service at the church and at other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Mt.
