Rosa Lee Evans

Rosa Lee “Peggy” Evans, 82 of Rockingham died February 14, 2014 in Sandhills Regional Medical Center. She was born April 2, 1931 in Cumberland County, NC a daughter of Shelly and Boyd Freeman. Rosa’s mother died eleven days after giving birth and Rosa was raised by her Grandmother the late Mary Freeman. She worked as a spinner for many years with Safie Mill. She was preceded in death by her son Clyde William Herrin, Jr., her first husband Clyde William Herrin, Sr. in 1958 and her second husband George Evans in 1990. She is survived by her daughters Catherine “Cathy” Thompson of Rockingham and Brenda H. Teal of Hamlet, her grandchildren; Steven Paul Thompson, Christy T. Smith, Toni T. Callicut and Lisa T. Cain. Also surviving are eleven great grandchildren. A service to celebrate the life of Rosa Lee Evans will be held 11:00 am. Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at Carter Colonial Chapel in Rockingham, Rev. Dennis Smith will officiate. Burial will follow in Northam Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00-8:00 at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham.
