Bural "Alex" Alexander Watkins

Bural Alexander “Alex” Watkins, 86, of Rockingham, passed away Monday, March 03, 2014 at his home. Mr. Watkins was born September 13, 1927 in Richmond County, a son of the late Henry and Anna Mae Porter Watkins. He had served his country in the US Navy, was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and had retired from Laurel Hill Paper Company. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Thomas Watkins, a daughter Jaci W. Duppstadt, sisters Sarah Forester, Mary Phillips and Ludean Zeigler, and brothers Henry “Buck” Watkins and Steve Watkins. Surviving are his children, Paul Alex Watkins and wife Angela of Rockingham Brenda Yates and husband Robert of Hamlet and Judi Dennis of Rockingham; grandchildren, Michelle Yates, Eric Stimmel, Crystal Dennis, Heather Dennis, Alex Watkins and Caleb Watkins; great grandchildren, Rebecca Stimmel, Jason Ingram and Jeremiah Anthony; a brother, John Watkins of Greensboro and a sister, Dot Cole of Carthage. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Wednesday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Perry Comer and Rev. Sam Standridge officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will see friends from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham and at other times at the home.
