Clara Blake King Smith

Clara Blake King Smith, 82, of Rockingham, passed away Wednesday, March 05, 2014 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst. Mrs. Smith was born September 12, 1931 in Richmond County, a daughter of the late Stanback Martin and Sallie Ann Blake. She was a longtime active member of Midway Baptist Church, where she was pianist for many years and had retired from the winding room of the Martha Baum Plant. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Jesse Lee King and Melvin L. Smith, and a daughter, Miriam King. She is survived by her sons, David King and wife Patsy, Robert H. “Bobby” King and Kenny King and Fiance Barbie Walls, all of Rockingham; seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a sister, Ruth Speight of Rockingham. Funeral services will be held at 11 am Friday at Midway Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Williams officiating. Interment will follow in Northam Cemetery. The family will see friends from 6 to 8 pm Thursday at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham and at other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Midway Baptist Church, P.O.Box 631 Cordova, NC 28330.
