Edwin McPhail Kelly, 93, of Rockingham, passed away Thursday, March 13, 2014 at his daughter’s home in Satsuma, Florida. Mr. Kelly was born June 15, 1920, in Richmond County, a son of the late Ira Brookshire and Julia Florence Wallace Kelly. He had served his country in the US Navy during World War II, was a member of the DAV, a member of Pee Dee Baptist Church and retired as owner/operator of Pee Dee Home Novelty Company. He was preceded in death by his wives, Geneva Jenkins Kelly and Clarice Russell Kelly, a daughter, Geraldine “Gerry” Kelly, grandsons, Mitchell and Rodney Kelly, brothers, John O, Ira B.,Jr, and James C. Kelly and sisters, Alma Kelly, Ada Bullard, Lillian Dunn, and Collene Thrower. Surviving are children, Bruce Kelly and wife Carolyn of Hamlet, John Kelly of Rockingham, Danny Kelly and wife Patti of Manchester, TN, Elaine Lee of Rockingham, Susie Gainey and husband Maxie of Satsuma, FL, and Sandra Martin, of Rockingham; 24 grandchildren:43 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3 pm Sunday in the Colonial Chapel of Carter Funeral Home with Rev. James Bryant officiating. Interment, with Military Honors, will follow in Northam Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 1:45 to 2:45 pm Sunday at the funeral home and at other times at Bruce and Carolyn Kelly’s home, 127 Ridgeview Dr., Hamlet.
