Marvin "Mutt" A. Davis

Marvin A. “Mutt” Davis, 86, of 137 Springdale Dr. Rockingham, died Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst. Mr. Davis was born May 1, 1922 in Marion County, SC. a son of the late Benjamin and Edith Gould Davis. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, the Hamlet Masonic Lodge #532, AF & AM, of which he has been a member over 55 years, the United Brotherhood of Transportation Workers and a lifetime member of the VFW Post 4203. He served his country in the US Navy during World War II in the South Pacific and retired from Seaboard Railroad. His wife, Hazel Colleen “Pete” Solomon Davis preceded him in death in 2006. Surviving are sons, Jerry W. Davis and wife Elaine, Marvin K. “Kebo: Davis, all of Rockingham, grandchildren, Marty Davis and wife Marsha of Rockingham and Cameron Davis of Concord, great grandchildren, Natalie and Claire Davis. Also surviving are brothers, Jefferson Davis of Lexington, Alton Davis of Cheraw, SC, sisters, Barbara Yarborough of Colorado Springs, CO, and Juanita West of Dunn. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday in the Colonial Chapel of Carter Funeral Home. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum of Richmond County Memorial Park. The family will see friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Friday at the funeral home and at other times at the home on Springdale Dr. Memorials may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church.
