Laurie Bakken Flannery, 68, of Ellerbe, passed away Monday, June 2, 2014 at her home. Mrs. Flannery was born August 16, 1945 in LaFayette, Indiana, a daughter of the late Glen P. and Jean Bakken. She was a graduate of Pembroke State University, where she received her Master of Education degree. Her love of children was evident thru her teaching special education in Anson County Schools and later Kindergarten at Richmond Primary School. She was an avid basket weaver, a supporter of Discovery Place Kids in Rockingham, a member of the Ladies Book Club, the Human Relations Committee and the Baha’i faith. Surviving are her husband, John Flannery, MD; children, Michael Flannery, Sean Flannery and wife Jennifer, Kerry Morrison and husband Craig; grandchildren, Li Na and Tai Morrison, Connor and Emmeline Flannery; brother, Richard Bakken and sister, Leslie Burbach. Graveside services will be held privately in Ellerbe Cemetery. There will be a gathering of family and friends from 6 to 8 pm Wednesday at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe.
