Mr. Jack Parnell Massey, 77, of 120 Sharon Rd. Rockingham went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 12, 2008. Mr. Massey was born September 27, 1930 in Union County, South Carolina, son of the late Garland and Ida Arrington Massey. Mr. Massey retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years of service, in which he was awarded a Bronze Star for Valor and a Purple Heart Medal in the Korean War and also served two Tours of Duty in the Vietnam War. He was retired from Fieldcrest of Laurel Hill and from the Richmond County Maintenance Department. Mr. Massey was a faithful member and Trustee of the Rockingham Church of God of Prophecy where he also served on the Building Committee and as an usher. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Thomas Carter Massey. A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Massey will be held 11:00 AM Friday, August 15, 2008 at the Rockingham Church of God of Prophecy with the Rev. Marshall Norris officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Richmond Memorial Park. Surviving Mr. Massey is his wife of 53 years Shirley Benson Massey of the home, son James P. Massey and wife Diane of Boonsboro, MD, daughter Lynda M. Bundy of Sanford, NC, brother Tommy Henry of Rockingham, sisters Pat Stover of New Hampshire, Geraldine Strickland of Florida, grandchildren Tammy Bundy of Rockingham, Brian Massey and Laura Massey of Maryland and a number of family and friends that he loved dearly. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Thursday Evening at the Church of God of Prophecy in Rockingham and other times at the home on Sharon Road.
