Mr. Earl Lee Chavis, 65, of 129 Garrett Street, Rockingham died Saturday, August 16, 2008 at First Health Richmond Memorial Hospital. He was born December 8, 1942 in Richmond County, a son of the late Ruby Page Johnson and James Chavis, Sr. Mr. Chavis was retired from Richmond Yarns, with twenty eight years of loyal service as a Department Manager. He had been a member of West Rockingham United Methodist Church. Mr. Chavis was an avid bowler, loved to fish, and coached girl’s softball. He was a loving husband and father, dedicated to his family. Funeral services will be conducted 4:00 pm Wednesday, August 20th in the chapel of Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham with Rev. Ricky Jacobs and Rev. Larry Joyner officiating. Interment will follow in Northam cemetery. Surviving are his wife, Dianne Overby Chavis of the home; daughters, Rebecca Chavis Fuson and husband Charles of Candor, Angela Chavis Foushee of Denton, Crystal Chavis Gathings and husband William of Hamlet, Dana Chavis Odom and husband Steven, and Amber Dianne Chavis and fiancé Michael Burgess, all of Rockingham; five grandchildren, four great grandchildren; three brothers, Jim Chavis of Dillon, SC, Bobby Chavis and Richard Chavis, both of Rockingham; three sisters, Myra Singletary of Rockingham, Gloria Gaddy of Albemarle, and Debra DeRatt of Asheboro. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 pm at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham.
