Rebekah McLean

Mrs. Rebekah Nichols McLean (Beck), 88, of Rockingham died peacefully Sunday, August 17, 2008, at home surrounded by her family. She was born September 16, 1919 in Richmond County, a daughter of Robert Louis “R.L.” and Mary Liles Nichols. Beck was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was proud to be a lifelong member of Zion United Methodist Church. She attended Flora McDonald College, then worked in the credit department of Belk Stores for many years, and later at the Rockingham Chamber of Commerce, until her retirement. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 pm Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at Zion United Methodist Church with the Reverend Dr. Rufus McLean and Reverend Ray Brooks officiating. Visitation at the church will be one hour prior to the service. Beck was preceded in death by her devoted husband of sixty-four years, James A. McLean, and siblings, Walter Nichols, Robert L. Nichols, Jr., William Cole Nichols, Vernon Nichols, Elizabeth N. Moore, and Lillian N. Smith. Beck is survived by a daughter, Mary Jo Taylor and husband Edward; grandson, Christopher Scott Boyette and wife Amanda of Chelsea, AL; great granddaughter, Faith Boyette; sister, Ann N. Hinton and husband Don of Lake Lure; brother in law, R. Carol McLean and wife Doris of Rockingham; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wants to express their appreciation and thanks to Linda, Lucille, Patricia, Virginia, and Betty who lovingly cared for Beck and enabled her to remain at home through her years of declining health.
