Betty Jean Warner Brown, 85, of Carthage, formerly of Rockingham, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at Tara Plantation in Carthage. Mrs. Brown was born August 29, 1928 in Richmond County, a daughter of Carl Franklin and Ella Mae Bennett Warner. She was a graduate of Ellerbe High School and Charlotte Business College. She had retired from the Purchasing Department at the Coty Division of Pfizer. She was preceded in death by her husband James L. Brown, and sisters, Laura Warner Horton and Joanne Warner Whiteside. Surviving are her children, Donald Joseph Brown, James Franklin Brown and Bonnie Brown Kanoy; grandchildren, Kimberly Gunter McFarling, Mary Margaret Kanoy, Joseph Ryan Brown, James Philip Brown, Colton Emory Kidd, Troy Johnson Moore, Robert Wallace Moore, Canaan Edward Kidd, David Hunter Kanoy, Brian Christopher Kanoy; great grandchildren, Brooke Nicole McFarling, Chase Kanoy, Owen Kanoy, Layla Grace Kidd; and sisters, Carlene Warner Hill and Wanda Warner Strassenberg. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Saturday at East Rockingham United Methodist Church with Rev. Scott Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in Richmond County Memorial Park. The family will see friends from 12:45 to 1:45 pm Saturday at the church.
