Mrs. Margaret Jane Mills Kilby, 74, of US Hwy 220 Ellerbe died Thursday July 17, 2014 in First Health Moore Regional Hospital . She was born April 3, 1940 in Asheville, NC a daughter of the late Andrew Blair and Margaret Griggs Williams Skidmore. Jane was a retired quality control supervisor with several of the textile mills in Wayne County. She was longtime member of Pikeville First Baptist Church and an active poll worker for Wayne County Elections. She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years Lacy F. Mills, Sr. After retirement she moved to the Ellerbe area and became active in the community serving as the director of the Ellerbe Senior Center. She was a member of the Ellerbe Lions Club and the First Baptist Church in Ellerbe. She is survived by her husband Charles Kilby of the home, a son Lacy “Rick” Mills of Concord, a daughter Rhonda Mills Hood of Goldsboro, a step son, Benjamin Kilby of New Freedom, PA, a step daughter Jane Kilby of Seagrove, NC., a brother, James Blair Skidmore and wife Shirley of Charlotte, two half sisters, Sherry Williams Unger of Toms River, NJ and Lee Williams Lachowitz of Rahway, NJ. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren; Kegan Scott Mills Hood, Kelsey Jana Hood, Katelyn Blair Mills, McKenna Elizabeth Mills and Rachel Bradshaw, 5 step grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and 7 step great grandchildren. A service to celebrate Jane’s life will be held 2:00 pm. Sunday July 20 at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe, NC conducted by Rev. Dr. Jim Brown. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services. A graveside service will be conducted 2:00 pm Monday July 21 at Gethsemane Cemetery and Memorial Gardens, 1504 W. Sugar Creek Road in Charlotte, NC. Conducted by Rev. Mike Toney.
