John William Burdette

Gunny Sgt. John William Burdette, 80, of Rockingham, passed away Monday, July 21, 2014 at his home. Mr. Burdette was born May 15, 1934 in Charleston, WV, a son of the late Auga Naldo and Marie A. McKinney. He was an active member of Roberdel Baptist Church, very active with Toys For Tots and had retired from the United States Marine Corps as a Gunnery Sergeant. Surviving are his wife Sarah Jo Hinson Burdette of the home; children, Todd Burdette (Sharon) of Victoria, TX, Stacey Burdette (Teresa) of Plano, TX, Ray Burdette (Maria) of Jacksonville, NC, Tina Crabtree Holder (Rodney) of Knightdale, Michael Crabtree (Teri) of Clayton, George Crabtree (Beverley) of Kenansville, NC; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; and sister, Garnett Shasteen (Ray) of The Villages, FL. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Thursday at Roberdel Baptist Church with Rev. Ernest Walters, Rev. Charles Larrimore and Rev. Chris Smith officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Richmond County Memorial Park. The family will see friends from 12:30 to 1:45 pm Thursday at the church and at other times at the home.
