Rev. Michael Douglas Stirk

Rev. Michael Douglas Stirk, 67, of Rockingham, passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at his home. Rev. Stirk was born April 5, 1947 in Richmond County a son of Bennie Sue Mathis Stirk and the late Doug Stirk. He was a graduate of Rockingham High School and Fruitland Bible Institute. He was the pastor at Faith Baptist Church for over 30 years and a founding member of the River Rod and Gun Club. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Donnie Stirk. Surviving are his wife, Betty Sowders Stirk of the home; sons, Chris Stirk and Danny Stirk, both of Rockingham; grandchildren, Hunter Stirk and Chasity Mixon; great grandchild, Kaleah Jade Brigman; mother, Bennie Sue Stirk of Rockingham; and sisters, Cindy Stirk of Rockingham and Dawn Cockman of Carolina Beach. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Thursday at Faith Baptist Church with Rev. Travis Wilkerson officiating. Interment will follow in Bear Branch Cemetery. The family will see friends from 5 to 7 pm Wednesday at Faith Baptist Church and at other times at the home.
