John Bullard Searcy, 48, of Rockingham, passed away Thursday, October 2, 2014 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst. John was born October 17, 1965 in Richmond County a son of Herman Searcy and the late Betty Jo Bullard Searcy. He was a graduate of Richmond Senior High School, Class of 1984, where he played football, basketball and ran track. He received a football scholarship to attend Wingate College and graduated in 1989. Following college, John began his law enforcement training (Basic, Intermediate and Advanced) and joined the Rockingham Police Department in 1990. In 1999 John was appointed by Judge Tanya Wallace to serve as a Magistrate in Richmond County. He was a member of the North Carolina Magistrate’s Association. John was an avid sports enthusiast and dearly loved being involved with his son Zane’s sports activities including helping coach youth baseball. He had a love for horses and had enjoyed building cars with his father Herman. Surviving are the love of his life, his wife, Sandy Swails Searcy of the home; his hero, son, Johnathan Zane Searcy of the home; father, Herman Searcy of Rockingham; sister, Lorraine Eubanks (Danny) of Rockingham; father and mother in law, Jerry and Janice Swails of Rockingham ;brother in law, Pete Swails (Lori) of Rockingham; sister in law, Bootsie Grant (Jason) of Southern Pines; numerous nieces and nephews, as well as close friends and co-workers. A celebration of John’s life will be held at 3 pm Sunday at KingsGate Church with Rev. Eston Bailey, Rev. Tim Campbell, and Rev. Bill Kearse officiating. Interment will follow in Eastside Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 pm Saturday at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham and at other times at the home.
