Deborah Ruth Martin, 56, passed away at her home in Longs, SC on Saturday, October 11, 2008. She was born June 5, 1952 in Richmond County, NC, a daughter of the late Floyd Martin and Gladys Lee Raines Jordan. She was employed for many years in Richmond County as a bus driver, and cafeteria worker for Richmond County Schools and also worked with Quick Stop Food Marts. In her civic duties for the Loris High School “ Loris Lions” she was the voice behind the roar. She was currently employed as a Regional Supervisor for Jerry Cox Convenience Stores in Myrtle Beach, SC. She will be truly missed by her community and friends of her church; Buck Creek Baptist Church of Longs, SC. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Floyd Lynn Martin; Stepfather, Jimmy Ray Jordan; grandparents, Charles Raines and Mary Etta Hill, Thomas and Alpha Mae Wood Martin and her lifelong best friend and confidant, Horace Lee Taylor. Surviving are one son, Phillip Steven Gillis, II and wife Patricia of the home; two daughters, Angela Terry Chance of Hamlet, NC, and Tamela Gillis Brower and husband Larry of Loris, SC. Also surviving are her dearly loved grandchildren, E.J. and Nija Williams, Adaya Brower, all of Loris, SC, Haleigh Gillis, Phillip Steven Gillis, III (Turtle) and Brett Hayes, all of the home, Catelyn and James H. Chance, III ( Trey) of Hamlet, NC. She leaves an extended family of many diverse friends and relatives that she treasured. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM Thursday at Roberdel Baptist Church. She will be laid to rest in the Martin Family Plot at McDonald Baptist Church Cemetery. A memorial service was held Monday at the home given by Buck Creek Baptist Church. The family will see friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Wednesday at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham and at other times at the Chance home, 616 Boyd Lake Road, Hamlet, NC.
