DeMetza Durmont Hutchinson, 92, of 222 Teddar Rd. Mt. Gilead, NC , formerly of High Point, died Thursday, October 30, 2008 at his home. Mr. Hutchinson was born January 4, 1916 in Stokes County, NC, a son of the late Decatur Martin and Hallie Joyce Hutchinson. He served his country during World War II in the 246th Coastal Defense Artillery and the 744th Heavy Attillery Division, his draft number was the first one drawn in Virginia in 1940. He was a member of Numa F. Reid Masonic Lodge #344 AF&AM in High Point, a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies, and was a Shriner. He was a furniture designer and owner of Hutchinson Designs in High Point for many years. His wife, Fern Shelton Hutchinson preceded him in death. Surviving are a son, Steve Hutchinson of San Francisco, CA, 2 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Monday in the Chapel of Oakwood Cemetery in High Point with Rev. Larry Hatfield officiating. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Richmond County Hospice, 1119 US Hwy 1 N, Rockingham, NC 28379.
