Edward Hawks

Mr. Edward Hastings Hawks, 75, of 4520 Northhaven Drive, Charlotte died Sunday, November 2, 2008 at Carolinas Medical Center. He was born April 16, 1933 in Richmond Co., NC, a son of the late Sam and Priscilla Bowman Hawks. Mr. Hawks was Baptist by faith. He graduated from Ellerbe High School, class of ’51. For many years, he owned and operated Georgeville Café in Locust. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mr. Hawks will be conducted 4:00 pm Thursday, November 6th in the chapel of Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe with Rev. Chris Hawks officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 4:00 pm prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at 136 Crawford Rd., Ellerbe. Surviving are four daughters, Edna Maynor (Jimmy), Emily Keel (Benny), and Laurie Hawks-Saultz (Bill), all of Ellerbe and Marian White (Danny) of Rockingham; a son, Daniel Hawks of Ellerbe; four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, two sisters, Gladys Coan of Hamlet and Sue Robison of Mt. Airy, and a very special friend, Nina Watkins. The family wants to say a special thank you to neighbors, Yang and Mia Vang and Junior Tyson. Mr. Hawks was preceded in death by brothers, Cecil Hawks, Earl Hawks, Hardin Hawks, and Warren ‘Dee’ Hawks; a sister, Rada Cooper, and a step-son, Chris Kivett.
