Mrs. Ila Dixie Hall Simmons, 89, of 1001 Richmond Rd., Rockingham died Saturday, November 8, 2008 at her daughter’s home. She was born in Stokes County on December 2, 1918 to Robert Troy and Alpha Savannah Shephard Hall. Mrs. Simmons was a member of Roberdel Baptist Church and was active with the food committee. She was a homemaker. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 am Monday, November 10th in the Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe with Rev. Chris Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Ellerbe cemetery. Surviving are three daughters, Dixie Cobler and Shirley Lovin, both of Rockingham, and Diane McKenzie of Ellerbe; a sister, Jessie Shuford of Asheville; a brother, Ordry Hall of Rockingham; eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren, three sister in laws and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-six years, Woodrow Wilson Simmons in 2003 and a daughter, Barbara Dunn in 2001. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6 to 8 pm at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe. Memorials may be made to Roberdel Baptist Church, 1118 Richmond Rd., Rockingham, NC 28379.
