Mrs. Marie McFayden Nicholson, age 82, died peacefully Wednesday morning November 12 at The Arbors at Carriage Club in Charlotte, NC where she had resided for the past 2 years. A resident of Ellerbe, NC for most of her life, Mrs. Nicholson was born February 7, 1926 to parents, Lonnie Angus McFayden and Lessie Carol Harris McFayden. Mrs. Nicholson retired in 1989 as a Vice President & Loan Officer of BB&T (formerly Southern National Bank) after 44 years of service. She was a long-time member of Concord United Methodist Church in Ellerbe where she was active for many years in the choir and the United Methodist Women and where she served as Treasurer for 30 years. Mrs. Nicholson loved spending time with her family and neighbors and was an avid gardener. The service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Nicholson will be held on Saturday, November 15th at 11:00 a.m. at Concord United Methodist Church in Ellerbe with interment to follow in the Church cemetery. Reverend Robert Carpenter will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and immediately following the burial service in the Church fellowship hall. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Nicholson was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Lacy Allen Nicholson and her youngest sister, Shirley M. Covington. Survivors include daughters, Carol Elder and Patricia Clark and their husbands, Joe Elder and Hugh Clark of Matthews, NC, three grandchildren, Nick Elder and wife Amber of Charlotte, NC, Katie Edde and husband Joel of Indian Trail, NC and Scott Clark of Matthews, NC, sisters, Helen M. Covington and husband Truett, and Dot M. Nicholson and husband James of Ellerbe and brothers, George McFayden and wife Katherine of Rockingham, NC, Buford McFayden and Ronald McFayden of Ellerbe and numerous loving nieces and nephews. The family would like to express its deep appreciation to Pat McMackin, Director, and the staff at The Arbors at Carriage Club in Charlotte for the comfort, compassion, love and care they provided to Marie in her final 2 years.
