Lola Goodwin

Miss Lola Goodwin, 102 of Somerset Court of Hamlet, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, November 17, 2008 at Sandhills Regional Hospital in Hamlet. She was born December 25, 1905, one of 11 Children of Rosa McGee Goodwin and Frankie Goodwin. Nine siblings lived to adulthood. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Bruce Goodwin, Leon Goodwin and James Goodwin, four sisters, Janie McPherson, Lillie Todd, Daira Terry and Virginia Callahan also a close friend Nannie Braswell. She is survived by one sister, Evelyn Free of Rockingham, several nieces and nephews to whom she was special. They lovingly cared for her and gave her her roses while she lived. Also surviving is her special baby, an 11 year old toy Chiuaua, Ginger. Lola started working in the Entwistle Mill, later Aleo Mfg., at age 9 and worked in several mills around the state retiring from Spring Mills at 75. She then purchased a lawn mower and tools and worked at lawn care for several years. She was a very tough lady and attributed her long life to never marrying and living a clean life. The family will see friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
