Rupert Lee Spivey, 76, of 129 KC Serenity Farm Lane, Ellerbe died Thursday, November 20, 2008 at Quail Haven in Pinehurst. He was born May 2, 1932 in Lee County, a son of the late Jesse Lee and Jessie Spartman Spivey. Mr. Spivey was an active member of Marcus United Methodist Church and was retired from General Motors with thirty years of service as a millwright mechanic. Mr. Spivey was a veteran, having served in the U. S. Army. He loved gardening and handiwork. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 pm Monday, November 24th at Marcus United Methodist Church with Rev. Myron Dice, Rev. Barbara Dice, and Rev. Roger Paxton officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Surviving are his wife of fifty seven years, Annie Ruth Reynolds Spivey of the home; three sons, Michael Spivey of Calhoun, GA, Mark Spivey of Madonna, MD, and Gary Spivey of Delta, PA; and seven grandchildren. Mr. Spivey was preceded in death by a son, Tony Spivey and sisters, Loretta Gardner and Jeuline Spivey. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 4 to 6 pm at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe.
