William Lloyd Mills, Jr., 78, of 404 Lumyer Road, Rockingham, died Friday, November 21, 2008 at his home. Mr. Mills, a lifetime resident of Rockingham, was born June 3, 1930 to William Lloyd and Edna Coleman Mills. He served his country for two years in the US Army, and after returning to Rockingham, married Shirley Mullis in 1955 in the First Baptist Church of Rockingham. He was employed at American Office and Mills Office Products for many years. Upon retirement from Mills Office Products, he enjoyed another career in painting for friends and neighbors. Lloyd was happy in whatever he was doing, especially when he could look forward to Friday night football and watching his beloved Raiders. Lloyd enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, and two grandchildren. He was always full of life and left an impression on everyone he encountered. In addition to his parents, Lloyd was preceded in death by his brother Bob; and two sisters, Evelyn Rasmussen and Marilyn Reynolds. Surviving are his wife Shirley Mills; daughter, Hayley Mills; son, Gray Mills and wife Karen, all of Rockingham; two grandchildren, Hannah and Becca Mills; sisters, Billie Taylor and husband Boyd of Rockingham, Faye Caerbert of Panama City Beach, Florida; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews, whom he dearly loved. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday from First Baptist Church of Rockingham with Rev. Dr. Lamar King and Rev. David Lee officiating. Interment will follow in Eastside Cemetery with Military Honors. The family will see friends from 6:00 –8:00 PM Saturday at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham and at other times at the home on Lumyer Road. The family wishes to express its deep appreciation to their friends at First Baptist Church of Rockingham for their prayers, love and support during this time of illness and to Scotland County Hospice for the wonderful care they gave him.
