Edgar M. Mallard, 75, passed away early Saturday morning, January 28, 2006 at his home in Derby. He was born April 18, 1930 in Lexington, NC, a son of the late Rudolph and Inez Mallard. Mr. Mallard was retiree of Pinehurst Incorporated, where he worked as an HVAC technician and retired as a Master Sergeant of the North Carolina National Guard. He served in the Korean War with the US Army and was honored for service to his country during wartime. Funeral services will be conducted graveside 3:30 pm Monday, January 30th at Jones Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Lesly Holt officiating. Mr. Mallard is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Clara Phillips Mallard and family, Wanda and Butch Burgess, Beverly Mallard, and Annette McNeill, all of Derby, Lisa and Mitch McCaskill of Level Cross, Lanny and Margie Phillps of Candor; a brother, Ellis Mallard of Candor; sisters, Treva Faye Morrison of Alabama and Lorene Chappell of Derby; eleven grandchildren and five great grand children. Mr. Mallard was preceded in death by his brothers, Lloyd, Walter, George, and Franklin Mallard and a sister, Eva Stuart. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 7 to 8:30 pm at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe and other times at the home, 914 Sycamore Lane in Derby.
