Myrtle Davis Stogner, 87, of Carolina Place in Pinehurst, formerly of Rockingham, passed away Thursday, February 19, 2015 Pinehurst. Mrs. Stogner was born September 6, 1927 in Wilson County, NC, a daughter of the late Ellie and Savannah Jordan Davis. She was a very active member of First Baptist Church, Rockingham, having served on numerous committees and was a member of the Rockingham Women’s Club. A graduate of East Carolina University, the University of North Carolina-Greensboro and the University of North Carolina-Charlotte, she was a dedicated Home Economics teacher in the Richmond County School System. Her greatest joy was her students and her impact on education in Richmond County and North Carolina, which is evident in her serving on the Richmond County Board of Education, service as Director of Vocational Education and the many professional groups to which she belonged. She was instrumental in the development if the Tech-Prep curriculum, which has been adopted by school systems across the United States. She had been a teacher of the year for Richmond County Schools and had received an honorary degree from Richmond Community College. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Howard Stogner , a daughter, Mary Grace Stogner and sister, Doris Davis Finch Bass. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Georgia and Erik Rasmussen of High Point; grandchildren, Hunter Rasmussen and wife Chloe of Raleigh, Anna Rasmussen and Virginia Rasmussen, both of Mt. Pleasant, SC and great-grandchildren, Davis and Madeline Ann Rasmussen, both of Raleigh. The funeral service will be at 11am Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Rockingham with Rev. Dr. James Nelson officiating. Interment will follow in Eastside Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 10 to 10:45 am Tuesday at First Baptist Church.
