Mr. Clancy C. Covington, 77, of Norman went to meet his Lord on Thursday, January 15, 2009, surrounded by his loving family Clancy was born April 26, 1931, in Richmond County a son of the late George Merrill and Fleta McIntyre Covington. He was a charter member of Ellerbe Fellowship Baptist Church and served on the first Board of Deacons. He was a founding member of Mountain Creek Fire Department. During the Korean War, he proudly served his country in the US Navy. Clancy enjoyed traveling, bluegrass music, gardening, and woodworking. One of his prize pieces was a handmade Kentucky long rifle. He enjoyed 51 years of marriage to Bobbie Darnell Covington. Funeral services will be held 2:30 PM Sunday, January 18, 2009 at Carter Funeral Home of Ellerbe with the Rev. Richard Stanford officiating. Burial will follow in Ellerbe Cemetery. Surviving Mr. Covington are his wife Bobbie Darnell Covington of the home, son, Lee Covington and wife Norma of Vancouver, WA, twin daughters and sons-in-law Kay and David Miller, of Seven Lakes, Fay and Michael Meginnis of Rockingham grandchildren David and Miranda Miller, Mekka and Danielle Kelley, Adam and Brendon Banta, sister-n-law Norma Sue Bright and husband Bobby, brothers-n-laws Howell Darnell and wife Ann, B.F. Darnell, Jr., and nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:00 PM Saturday, January 17, 2009 at Carter Funeral Home of Ellerbe and other times at the home on Capel Mill Rd.
