James Arnold Clifton, 76, of Rockingham, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at Hospice Haven in Rockingham. Mr. Clifton was born October 13, 1938 in Bulloch County, Georgia, a son of the late Ruel C. Clifton, Sr., and Julia Dell Wood. He had served his country in the US Army, was a member of First Baptist Church and had retired from Richmond County Schools. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Thomas James Gosnell and brother J.B. Clifton. Surviving are his wife, Lynda Connell Clifton of the home; children, Jeremy Clifton and wife Tiffany of Chipley, FL, Sandi Gosnell and husband Arnold of Mocksville, NC, Anna Moseley and husband Teddy of Rockingham; grandchildren, Maggie and Jude Clifton, David, Emily and Avery Gosnell, Dexter Moseley; brother, Ruel Clifton, Jr. of St. Cloud, FL and sister Barbara Clifton and husband Ray Huffines of St. Cloud, Fl. Funeral services will be at 3 pm Sunday at First Baptist Church in Rockingham with Rev. Dr. Jim Nelson, Rev. Patricia Greene and Rev. Allison Farrah officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlake United Methodist Church Cemetery with a private family service. The family will see friends from 6 to 8 pm Saturday at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham and at other times at the Moseley home, 227 Confederate Ave, Rockingham.
