Annabel Gilliam Lassiter

Annabel Gilliam Lassiter, 90, lovingly known as “Gran” went home to be with her Lord and Savior Thursday, January 29, 2009 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital. She lived with her daughter, Margaret Peninger and husband Jim at 332 Lawson Lane, Rockingham, NC. Annabel was born September 23, 1918, a daughter of the late Charles and Mottie Lampley Gilliam. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas D. Lassiter; son, Jimmy Lassiter; brothers: George, Roy, Tom, and Grady Gilliam and sisters: Dora Mae Hawkins and Ella Wright. Gran was a lifelong member of Cordova United Methodist Church and a member of the Ella Blake Sunday School Class. At age 90, she was an active member of a family and friends’ Bonco Club. Gran was loved by all who knew her. She was known for her sweet and caring ways, and all will remember the role Gran played in their lives. A service to celebrate Gran’s life will be at 3:00 pm Sunday February 1, 2009, at Cordova United Methodist Church with the Dr. Rev. Milford Oxendine and Rev. William Kearse, Jr. officiating. She is survived by son, Bill Lassiter and wife Mary Jane; daughters: Margaret Lassiter Peninger and husband Jim, Jean Lassiter Lee and husband Carl, Donna Lassiter Hamilton and husband Jeff; and daughter-in-law Phyllis Lassiter; grandchildren: Tommy Lassiter, Lori Lassiter Patrick, Kimberly Peninger, Floyd, Sonya Lassiter Hughes, Belinda Moree McDonald, Scott Lee, Marianna and Caroline Walker, Tad and Patrick Hamilton; great-grandchildren: Tara King, Alexis Wise, Cassie and Colby Patrick, Hunter and Kendal Floyd, Brandon and Olivia Hughes, Luciana Lee, Amanda Monroe, Nathan and Kelsey McDonald; four great-great-grandchildren; a number of loving nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Pete Page. The family will receive friends Saturday, January 31, 2009, from 6:00-8:00 pm at Carter Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Margaret and Jim Peninger. Memorials may be made to Cordova United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 279, Cordova N.C. 28330.
