Francis Marion Dwight, II

Francis Marion Dwight, II, 69, of Ellerbe, passed away Friday, August 21, 2015 at his home, Fox Hollow Farms. Francis was born September 23, 1945 in Moore County, a son of the late Francis Marion and Jessie Mae Sugg Dwight. He had served his country in the US Army in the Vietnam War, during which he received a Purple Heart and also the Bronze Star with 2nd Oakleaf Cluster. Francis graduated from Wofford College, taught for many years at Rockingham Junior High School, and was a member and past president o f Ellerbe Lions Club. He was a faithful and active member of First United Methodist Church in Ellerbe, a cattle rancher, a thoroughbred horse breeder and trainer, an avid golfer and traveler. He loved being the grandfather of two young grandsons. He was preceded in death by his son, Francis M. “Chip” Dwight, III and his sister, Katherine Colona. Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Claudia Wiggins Dwight of the home; daughters, Suzannah Laucher (Drew) of Albemarle, Christian Edwards (Cory) of Pittsboro and grandchildren, Abel Laucher and Quentin Edwards. Funeral services will be held at 1pm Tuesday, August 25, 2015, at First United Methodist Church in Ellerbe with Rev. Elizabeth Polk and Rev. Donald Daniel officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Ellerbe Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:45 to 12:45 Tuesday in the chapel of First United Methodist Church Ellerbe and at other times at the home.
