Curtis Melton, Jr., 81, of Rockingham, passed away Saturday, August 22, 2015 at his home. Mr. Melton was born May 7, 1934 in Johnston County, NC , a son of the late Curtis and Annie Louise Jones Melton. He had served his country in the United States Army and was of the Baptist Faith. Following his retirement from the US Army, he had been owner of the Admiral Motor Inn and Myrtle Beach Trailer Park, and Melton’s Gifts and Antiques in Hamlet. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Curtis L. Melton, and a sister, Alice Ritchie. Surviving are his wife, Carol Swanner Melton of the home; brother, Jimmy Melton (Judy) of Hamlet; nieces and nephews, Tammy Melton, Robert Melton (Jenny), Danny Snead (Diane), Jerry Snead (Ann), Barbara Bingham; sister in law, Becky Sherrill ( Bryant) and special friend, that he called his little girl, Nikki Hinson. Funeral services will be held at 3 pm Thursday in the Colonial Chapel of Carter Funeral Home with Pastor Marvin Taylor and Rev. Joe B. Wilkes, Jr. officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Eastside Cemetery. The family will see friends from 1:45 to 2:45 pm Thursday at the funeral home and at other times at the home.
