Larry Eugene “Gene” Ervin, 72, of Rockingham, passed away Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at Rowan Memorial Hospital in Salisbury. Gene was born October 11, 1942 in Vincennes, IN, a son of the late Oda William & Ruby Geraldine Wilson Ervin. He had served his country for over 24 years in the US Army, including enlistments during the Vietnam War. He was a member and past president of the Sandhills Shag Club, had attended the Church of God of Prophecy and currently attended New Beginnings Christian Ministry. Following his retirement from the US Army, he worked with Sandhills Roofing Co., Cameron Morrison Correctional Facility and Richmond County Department of Social Services. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Donald Eugene Ervin. Surviving are his children, Deborah Elizabeth Hodges ( Robert) of Indian Trail, Karen Sue James (Mike) of Greenville, NC, William Joseph Ervin (Brenda) of Rockingham; grandchildren, Petty Officer Jarrod Ervin, USN, Ben Feegle, Crystal Boone (Chris), Joel Hodges, Keith Hodges; 3 great grandchildren; brother, William Ervin of Rockingham and sister, Martha LeMay of Springfield, IL. Funeral services will be at 11 am Friday in the Colonial Chapel of Carter Funeral Home with Rev. Tony Clark officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Richmond County Memorial Park. The family will see friends from 9:45 to 10:45 am Friday at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham.
