Reverend Clyde Grady Benoist, 88 of Rockingham passed away on August 25, 2015 at his home with his family around him. Grady was born August 23, 1927 in Richmond County a son of the late Clyde and Nancy Watts Benoist. Grady started pastoring at age 29, after returning from his service in the Army in Korea. He pastored Peace Valley for 27 years; then Steadfast Baptist for 5 years; and Hebron Temple for 8 years. Grady worked at #2 Hannah Pickett and Safie Mill during the early years of being a “working Pastor”.He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Edna DeBerry Benoist, a son Grady Benoist, Jr., a grandson Matthew Grady Benoist, and brothers William ”Bill” Benoist, Jesse Benoist, Bobby Benoist , Don Benoist, and Curtis L. Benoist. Surviving are his wife Betty Lou Annas Benoist of the home; sons Eddie Benoist of Rockingham, Tim Killian(Bonnie) of Charleston, SC, David Killian of Rockingham, brothers Rev. Ken Benoist (Ruby) , Charles Everette Benoist, and Ronnie Benoist(Mary) all of Rockingham; sisters, Helen B, Lampley and Sarah Benoist, both of Rockingham; 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be at 3:30 pm, Friday, August 28, 2015 in the Colonial Chapel of Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham. Burial will follow in Richmond County Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Friday from 2:15 pm to 3:15 pm at the funeral home and other times at the home.
