David "Ted" Roundtree Smith, Jr.

David Roundtree “Ted” Smith, Jr., 82, of Rockingham, passed away Thursday, September 10, 2015 at PruittHealth in Rockingham. Mr. Smith was born August 21, 1933 in Richmond County, a son of the late David Roundtree and Dicey Elizabeth Ormsby Smith. He served his country in the US Air Force and retired from CSX Railroad. He was a member of Hannah Pickett Community Church where he had served on the board, sang in the choir and worked with the youth. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Linda S. Parker and a step son, Robert Keith Williams. Surviving are his wife, Peggy Goodwin Williams Smith of the home; children, Darren Legrande Smith of Rockingham, Derek Lance Smith of Rockingham, Debra Smith Davis (William) of Lake Wylie, SC; 6 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; brother, Clayton T. Smith of Rockingham and step children, Craig Williams (Joanie) of Rockingham and Richard Williams of Rockingham. Funeral service will be at 3 pm Sunday at Hannah Pickett Community Church with Rev. Chris Young and Ed O’Neill, Jr. officiating . Interment will follow in Eastside Cemetery. The family will see friends from 6 to 8 pm Saturday at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham and at other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Hannah Pickett Community Church, Scholarship Fund, P.
