James Hayden, 80, formerly of Ellerbe died Friday, February 20, 2009 at Britthaven of Hamlet. Mr. Hayden was born October 1, 1928, in Stokes County, a son of the late Major and Ada Martin Hayden. He had been employed as a farmer and pulp wood cutter. His son, Jerry Hayden and brothers, Chester and Eugene Hayden and a sister, Betty Jo Hayden preceded him in death. Surviving are sons, Roger Hayden, Keith Hayden and companion Vicki Parsons, Jimmy Hayden and wife Lisa, all of Ellerbe, Earl Hayden and companion Betty Wilson of Pekin, daughters, Brenda Ward and husband John of Whitsett, NC, Gayle Sweet of Ellerbe, the children’s mother, Wilma Smith Sweet of Ellerbe, Sister, Annie Mae Hayden Grant of Chambersburg, PA, 17 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, special friend Ronnie Bryant of Hamlet and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday in the Ellerbe Chapel of Carter Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Carpenter officiating. Interment will follow in the Exway Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will see friends from 6:00 – 8:00PM Sunday at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe and at other times at Jimmy and Lisa’s 624 Fire Tower Rd. Ellerbe.
