Lucille Rankin Smith

Lucille Rankin Smith, 92, of Rockingham, passed away Monday, November 02, 2015 at her home. Mrs. Smith was born January 1, 1923 in Richmond County, a daughter of the late Clarence Hope and Gladys Thomas Rankin. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Rockingham, where she had taught Sunday School, was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and had retired as bookkeeper for S&S Auto Parts. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Thomas Smith and a daughter, Sandra Lou Smith. Surviving are daughters, Tess Ann Jones of Rockingham, Pamela Waters (Keith) of Raleigh; grandchildren, Jill Emerson (Scott), Adyson Long (Anthony), Jake Waters (Rachael), Jordan Burwell (Leon); 3 great grandchildren and brothers, Tom Rankin of Hamlet and Don Rankin of Greensboro. Funeral services will be at 2pm Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Rockingham with Rev. Dr. Jim Nelson and Rev. Patricia Greene officiating. Interment will follow in Eastside Cemetery. The family will see friends from 12:45 to 1:45pm Wednesday at the church and at other times at the home.
