Lila Mae King

Lila Mae Rogers King, 90, of Cordova, passed away Monday, November 2, 2015, at FirstHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital in Rockingham. Mrs. King was born December 8, 1924 in Richmond County, a daughter of the late Jesse Charlie and Lula Mae Jernigan Rogers. She was a longtime member of Cordova United Methodist Church, where she had taught Sunday School for over 30 years and was a member of the WMU. She had retired from Burlington Industries, Quality Control Department. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Julian Martin King, Jr; granddaughter, Kimberly Ann Smith; step grandson, Michael Sean Fielder; brothers, Bud and C.L. Rogers and sisters, Alma Player and Myrtle Turner. Surviving are her children, Ora Mae Smith of Rockingham, Jesse King (Janet) of Lexington, Vivian Roberts (Jimmy) of Cordova; grandchildren, Vikki Burns (Mike), Kyle Smith (Elizabeth), Allison Butler (Wesley), Dean Roberts (Robin), Sean Roberts (Kim), and great grandchildren, Kingsley Burns, Hayden Burns, Zachary Smith, Patrick Smith, Katherine Butler, Rusty Roberts, Hannah Roberts, Ally Roberts, Raven Roberts and Emily Roberts. Funeral services will be at Noon Thursday at Cordova United Methodist Church with Rev. Michael Griffin and Elder Jesse King officiating. Interment will follow in Northam Cemetery. The family will see friends from 10:45 to 11;45 am Thursday at the church and at other times at the home in Cordova. Memorials may be made to Cordova United Methodist Church, P.O.Box 279, Cordova, NC 28330. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff of Pruitt Health in Rockingham for their kindness and compassion to Mrs. King.
