Etta Lee Purvis Thomas, 92, of Rockingham, passed away Sunday, December 20,2015 from complications due to a broken hip and congestive heart failure. Mrs. Thomas was born September 9, 1923 in Anson County, a daughter of the late James Frances “Jim” and Lucy Pearl “Pearlie” Deese Purvis. Mrs. Thomas had worked with Safie Mill, Fox Drugs and retired from Sara Lee Hosiery. She was a long time faithful member of Pee Dee United Methodist Church. She and Paul Emanuel Thomas were married on December 23, 1944 and had one child, Larry. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Paul; son Larry; brothers, James Frederick “Fred” Purvis, Charles William “Red” Purvis, John Calvin Purvis; and sisters, Callie Blanche McDonald and Levina Purvis. Surviving are her sister, Margaret Fisher of Cordova and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 3 pm Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at Pee Dee United Methodist Church with Rev. Brian Perry officiating. Interment will follow in Northam Cemetery. The family will see friends from 2 to 3 pm Tuesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Richmond County Hospice or to Pee Dee United Methodist Church.
